about festival |
About festival International Festival of Instrumental Folk Music GRIEŽYNĖ is the only one festival of this genre in Lithuania, and the oldest festival of instrumental folk music in the eastern Baltic region. Two enthusiasts of instrumental folk music, Algirdas Klova and Arūnas Lunys, gave birth to this festival in 1992. Arūnas represents the Lithuanian Folk Culture Centre - the organizer of the festival. The title is not accidental: people used to call fiddle this way. Also fiddle is one of the main folk instruments not only in Lithuania. The objective of the festival is to present various nations' musicians and their instruments, on the other hand, to show our guests the authentic Lithuanian tradition of making music. Previous GRIEŽYNĖ festivals had musicians from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Finland, England, Sweden, Norway, Denmark , Peru, Ireland, Wales, USA. The festival GRIEŽYNĖ is not only concerts. There will be a big number of events such as: Photo Exhibitions of musicians and their instruments, Folklore movies (documentary ethnographic material about customs, production of instruments, musicians, dances), evening-parties, dance classes, folklore workshops, charitable concerts, etc. |
